I've been thinking about both Eric Jacobsen's and Elio Camacho's advice to me (during their workshops) about how I have to pay attention to how objects meet. I painted an uncomplicated scene today expressly to work on this. So, maybe I'm one more painting closer to having better edges.

Hi Celeste,
Is nice, I like the edges, on the far hills, and the tree is integrated very well w/the sky however,.......... where is the middle ground? I think is missing? One oil is much better than no oil, all the best Celeste
Hi Mariano,
You are right, it is not such a good painting, but I decided to put up all my paintings, even the so-so ones. The middle ground is represented by the pale yellow color under the hills. I'll probably do better next time! Thanks for commenting!
I've been learning about transitions or edges recently so read your post and viewed your painting with much interest. What struck me is the atmospheric edges of the tree (which gives it more form) plus sets back the clouds even more. There is equally good edges in the far hills - nicely done.
This looks fine to me, Celeste. Good variety of edges with nothing appearing "stuck on".
Richard Schmid says to keep all edges soft until the very end...then be very selective about which ones you accentuate.
I still struggle with edges.
Wow, Celeste, I wish my practices looked this accomplished. Your edges look good. What I'm really enjoying in this is the freedom of the brushwork, the lovely color combinations, and the interesting regulation of shapes. Really a treat to see.
I understand you are focusing on "edges" right now, but I must comment on your composition, and light. The light refraction in the clouds is so wonderful I can almost smell the rain. As you know "Artist" is never a destination.
Keep doing what you do...
wonderful little piece!!
For "only practice" I think this is very nice! And I love the sky.
I think you have good harmony and edges going on here. You are right on.
Nice in it's simplicity.
Beautiful!
Very nice painting. The brushwork and color are especially good.
