Floral painting is generally not my thing, but in keeping with my "red" painting plan..a poppy seemed a good subject. This painting will require another pass... it is not finished yet. I feel that it may be off to a good start ....do you agree?Oil on 12x24 stretched canvas

Wow..... yes! I have to study your color palette on Big Poppy because I think it's dynamic and gorgeous.
My mouth fell open when I saw this and I haven't been able to close it yet... the explosive colors have me reeling! -Don
Gorgeous!! You don't have to do much more to this painting.
I love it! The colors are great! I am not one who usually appreciates the more contemporary styles but this one grabs me. I'll be waiting to see the final result.
For some reason, I am finding this piece exceptionally stirring. It just makes me suck in my breath with its beauty. A good start indeed!
It's WONDERFUL!!!! I LOVE IT!! You are a tremendous inspiration Celeste. I always enjoy seeing your work.
It is amazing Celeste. I love the color explosion.
Thanks so much for your thoughtful comments on my blog.
Oops. I just read what Don said. Well, when an adjective fits...
Sometimes artists need to be told when its done. We don't always know when to stop. I say this is not only done, its a winner!
I agree with Don. This is jaw-dropping wonderful.
i just like it the way it is, nices colors
tolle Farbzusammenstellung, so gefallen mir deine Bilder. Großartig!!!
Viele Grüße Werner
At this point, I think the areas of color are a little too democratic - of equal values and simlar sizes and shapes - I'm wanting an area where things aren't happening.
I love this! The colours are so vivid. It would look great in silk...
Wow...I absolutely love this piece. I thought at first that it was the colors that caught my eye, but it is the overall presentation. Absolutely wonderfully done. I would call it finished at this stage. Beautiful.
The design element in this painting
is very strong.
In contrast with the poppies fragile, yet florishing bloom, I sense perserverance amongst bold surroundings.
There is a stained glass effect, yet I want to think "pond"
Celeste, this evokes much creative
wonderment.
I almost want to say "don't add anything more. It looks good as it is.
Only you know what should be done.
It's fun & beautiful!
Love the format. You rock, Celeste.
Hi Celeste,
You know, the first time I ever saw a poppy, I wasn't sure it was a real flower. (That's because my mom has been known to put plastic flowers out on the flower bed. Heavy on color, short of life.)
As a non-artist, I wonder what makes a "good start" and not a good start.
It's interesting to read your comments about WIP.

Wow. I do agree. But then, I am a color junkie :-). Can't wait to see what you do to it, as it looks done to me!
Yes, in a word, you are 1000% on to the next level! :)
Yes I do agree you are off to a fabulous piece - great proportion on the vertical. Love it ( and i do agree that it could be called finished at any point).
I LOVE poppies! Yours are fabulous!
I agree your poppy painting is off to a good start. I love the color harmony. Rich and vibrant.
It is smashing...loving the colors!! can't see what else you'd do, but curious to hear/see what may come of it.
This is one of the most beautiful poppy paintings I have ever seen. I hope you don't mind but I have linked to your blog.
Did you decide if this is finished???
