I visited Elk Rock Garden with fellow plein air painter Katherine van Schoonhoven today. We were smart not to take all of our gear into the garden...because we had just enough time to sketch a little before the sky went gray and it began to rain. The trees near the river have such interesting shapes from lots of years and lots of wind. Two big hawks circled around overhead. There weren't any lilies (to speak of) in the pond. We'll go back again another time.

Braving the elements for art - at least a feeling of accomplishment, and the tree sketch has a lovely dance-y quality.
Wonderful sketch! I love the shapes of trees in winter. This sketch shows one of those unique trees.
Love your tree sketch! You really got the reaching quality to the branches! Next time we go there, we'll paint!
Travail intéressant que celui des arbres, des branches. Très joli
Another great day of art. You are an inspiration. Thank you!

Your blog made my day. The sketch of a tree looks awesome. It was nice going through your blog. Iflorist.co.uk
A beautiful sketch! I've never been much of an outdoor painter, and for that reason I truly admire those like you who are so good at it!
But the greens become richer hued, the sun not so merciless, the clouds so comforting...And a beautiful gnarled tree to boot! I think this day sounds like it was quite awesome, Celeste. Wish I could be sitting where you are!
Once again I am inspired by you and your work and words. I love this one. As you know I am a realist but did anybody notice the happy little ghost in the very centre of those branches. Is the the spirit of joy you carry around with you?
beautifully calligraphic!
Sometimes it's good to just sketch too...I' don't do enough of it!
Ah, the art I most enjoy--drawing with a pencil. Great tree; inspires me to go outside and look up at the old trees in my yard.
Cool. The weather is ultimately going to be in our favor soon enough. I was able to get out today and I cant believe how beautiful it is. Even with no leaves and such. Just nice and warm. Give me a rolling hill and a group of trees and I am good to go.
