Life painting session ...two oil sketches

We had a great model today..it is hard to not concentrate on her red hair to the exclusion of practically everything else...Well, on the upside, I achieved a pretty good likeness. I hope to paint her again using these studies for reference. I know what I will do differently!

Incredible paintings, both of them and I love the colour of her hair!

Celeste...you are just doing everything right. Value studies, life drawing, keeping a sense of humor!! Its interesting that that the more accomplished artists keep doing these rudimentary exercises...like scales for a musician. Hmmmm. Wonder if that's why their art is progressing to a higher plane? I'm just sayin'.

All thru Art School we had one model in particular who was a fixture in life drawing and painting classes. Chloe. And she had the most amazing milk white skin and flaming red hair. I think she was an artist herself and really knew her business. Still have drawings I did of her way back in the day.

The life drawing sessions I have easy access to are odd...no chairs. no drapes or clothing. Just contortionist poses. I have a hard time with that.

Nice! Gotta' love that red hair! You've captured the color perfectly. I have a little coppertop here in my house. Even seeing it on a daily basis you can't keep your eyes off of it - especially in the sunlight.

She is indeed beautiful, Celeste. I do not see how you can improve on perfection, really. You've done extraordinary work on these pieces.

Celeste you always amaze me with what you produce. I love this the way you have caught the inner being of the person the soul the Chi. I might just give up painting and look at yours.

I think you've also got the translucent skin of the redhead down.

Red is such a vibrant color to work with and you captured the feel perfectly! Curious... what would you have done differently?
