Nightfalls on the city

I spent the better part of the afternoon and evening photographing work. I came across this little plein air that I like from last year. I painted it in a big hurry from my car.

Oil Sketch: Celeste Bergin, Nightfalls on the city, 2009, Oil on gessoed hardboard, 7 x 5 inches.

Oh, Kind of Twilight. I like how the color and light crescendo as it moves up the painting.

Wow! This is really cool. I can just feel the energy of the city and enjoy seeing the glow of its lights upon the low-hanging clouds.

Thanks for the yooo-hooo. :-) It made my evening, which has been totally absorbed in the re-installing of software into my Mac which I just got back after sitting in the shop for over a week... Oh the fun...

I love this one, Celeste. There is an almost romantic feel to this piece and I am so unromantic it isn't funny. Maybe that is why I love it so. Gorgeous skies, perfect darkening of the buildings to reflect their silhouettes in the evening skies...

I had to take a closer look, to see the strokes. Just wonderful! I love all the purple in this painting. It gives it a dreamlike atmosphere.

Sweet greetz!

Gee, if I did this, I'd be doing all my paintings in the car. :-)

"In a big hurry" cuts out all un-necessary detail!
You have captured great atmosphere and a very arresting image in this small painting, Celeste. Great stuff!
