Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge

The day began with a trip to one of my favorite art supply stores, Muse, where I bought some new pens, charcoal, a new sketchbook & a sharpener. We drove to Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge where I did some sketching (you're allowed only to get out of the car in just one place, the rest of the time the sketching has to take place in the car--which is not a bad thing, it was fun)... At the end of the day I turned my sketches into an oil painting (painted over one of my failed paintings).
Painting: Celeste Bergin, Heron, 2010, oil on 10x10 stretched canvas

Beautiful!! The palette for this painting reminds me of Wolf Kahn's work. It excites the eye and makes me want more. What an idyllic setting.

You were at my favorite national wildlife refuge! Did you see Sandhill Cranes? Beautiful painting -- love the quiet serenity you captured. Feels like I need to whisper!

The colors and reflections are beautiful. The heron really stands out against the deep red. What a beautiful and serene place.

Beautiful! All the colors you brought into the scene! I loved your slideshow. Places like that wildlife refuge are my favorite places. And thanks for showing your sketch kit. I am definitely buying a Factis Black 18. I just bought one of those visual journals (the small one - I am having trouble nudging myself larger in the sketches.)

A very graceful painting Celeste.
When these birds take flight, it is awe inspiring. You have captured that, or should I say you have releast it!

Hi Celeste,
this is a beautiful painting, I love all the colors and how they harmonize. I've painted from my car and it is a lot of fun (sketching too). For painting I rigged up a peice of wood that lays across my steering wheel and I put my canvas on that.
Thanks for visiting my blog, sorry I haven't commented much lately, glad to catch up with your beautiful paintings.

What is a Factis black 18? I saw your sketching materials in the slideshow . . .
I don't have a great ink pen to sketch with, would love a suggestion.
thank you!

I was at Ridgefield NWR last Wednesday and saw surely that very same egret flying just so! You've captured it perfectly.

Hey Celeste...I just found this and had to comment! I rank it up with the rooster you did a while back. Excellent painting! Would like to see more like this.
