Our model posed with an umbrella & a red robe during today's life painting session. I was pleased with this color sketch and I should have taken it further. I always like painting two paintings during the 3 hour session...but, today my 2nd version turned out very so-so...(and it's been left on the "cutting room floor"). Oil Sketch: Celeste Bergin, K in red robe, oil on 16 x 20 canvas panel
P.S. In other news....oh my gosh...my artist friend Annie (who suffered a severe stroke just months ago) painted a new painting today for her blog...check it out...she paints brilliantly with her non-dominant hand! Whoa! Talent! Go Annie Salness!

I love the red and the umbrella with the diagonal shape adds energy. Your model looks very elegant. Beautiful!
Love the looseness and strong reds!
I like this a lot. I like the sketch structure underlying the color. I like the unfinished feel. Nice light/shadow thing going on. Wm
Celeste this is great! It reminds me of Boldini! The composition is excellent and the color is alive!
Very beautiful Celeste - great job!
Très sensuelle et délicate... Bisous
Lovely ... and I wouldn't take it any farther Celeste - such strength from the reds.
Man, this pose has your name written all over it! What a great subject and great umbrella canopy embrace. Your confidence with the figure really shows in the breezy, loose gestural feel to every brush stroke. You make it look easy.
And, HOORAY for Annie! Amazing work from an amazing artist and it shows her remarkable spirit and strength. You are thoughtful to post about her, too!
Like this a lot. The red is overwhelming.
Great reds--beautiful. I'm happy to hear about your friend Annie--her painting's wonderful.
great work...excellent strokes...
This is a real eye catcher, the colors and the position of the model, really beautiful.
love the red and the umbrella... very nice and feminin
Love this palette, Celeste. I'm not sure how to describe this, but this piece reminds me of an artist's studio...love the unfinished couch...just the perfect touch to make her the highlight, both form and color at the forefront.
nteresting red and strokes
This is beautiful! Such a strong composition, I had to pop over and see the larger version when it showed up on my sidebar.
Oh Celeste, you should use this as a study for a larger more developed version. It's powerful and desirable.
Thanks for letting us know about Annie. Wonderful that she's back!
Oh, I love the "unfinished" quality of this painting! And yes, Annie is quite amazing.
WOW-the lines in this are sumptuos
I really marvel at your work and integrity -although i always look, I rarely comment as you have such a huge and well deserved audience who says it all for me..
but I can't contain myself--my jaw also dropped at last week's Wed, Thursday and Saturday posts
Great composition (as always) and I've always loved red and gray. Your tones are wonderful.
Annie's painting is fabulous! WOW!
You've been red all over lately. You wear it so well!
Yay, Annie! She's done an amazing painting. Quite bodacious with the values!
I am certainly no artist, but I love this one just the way it is.
The sketched background lets your subject be front, center and command the attention she so richly deserves. In my humble opinion that is.
