Value Study

I participated in the PPASP March Challenge by doing this value study. I took creative license with the hat. With my adjustments she looks a little like a Spaniard in mourning.  Echo de menos su amistad.

Sketch: Celeste Bergin, Widow, pencil & Gouache on 16 x 20 tinted paper

Appealing study.

Is this a study for another 2nd/finished portrait?
Quite enough information and simply stated.

Thanks Jan, ArtSpark and Dave! Dave...no, I won't do a second painting. The reference photo of the Victorian lady is on the Behind the Scenes blog.

I like the hat. And, the tonalist idea is really great! It strikes you, and then you get to wander through the gesturals. Love that!

Now that you mention it, she does look as you described, Celeste. I think she is beautiful!

The hat's my favorite part! Very well done. I like it. And tell her: Usted conseguirá más de él.
