Revamping

I found an old painting that I didn't care about and I revamped the subject (pun intended). The original painting is of a frumpy woman...but I gave her a makeover.

Painting: Celeste Bergin, In the Rain, oil on 9x12 canvas panel

Love the colors on each side of her, Celeste! Great shot of underside of umbrella too. And the woman herself reminds me of Amy Winehouse! Your work is just exquisite and because of who she reminds me of, I'm especially loving that brightness around her. Helps remove some of the sadness...

how do you paint over an old painting? do you have to prepare the surface somehow

I want to go over old paintings. I have tried it, and they always come out no better than the original. Was this dry and you went over the top? I enjoy both versions.

So glad you posted Amy Winehouse's song Saturday. In a coincidence that gives me the willies, Last week I decided to make a whole channel of her music. Listened to it nonstop for days. Then came the sad news. Made me very sad and mad.
Like Autumn Leaves, I also think this is a beautiful likeness of Winehouse. I think she would have like it a lot, too.

I love the colors too, Celeste. It's amazing what a face lift and the right wardrobe can do for the spirit. She looks energized.

gros bisous
