My day began at
Jam on Hawthorne where I had a "business meeting". (Business is decidedly more fun when waffles are involved). After the meeting I got a tour at
Gamblin Artist Colors.
Scott Gellatly. the Product Manager, gave us a tour of the whole plant and in the end we discussed the new
Fastmatte oil paints. Fastmatte dries quickly and that should make underpaintings a snap. Not only can you do an underpainting faster, you can do it with a variety of 8 colors. We got a gift of three paints to try out for ourselves and when I got home I painted the underpainting above. Tomorrow I will add color on top of the painting...it's all an experiment! (Special note to all my
PPASP-er friends, Scott has not forgotten that he promised our group a tour! He is working on the date and I'll put it on our calendar as soon as I know). So that was my day....how was YOURS?!

Hi Celeste, how funny that I saw this post. I'm visiting Portland (for the first time) next week and I'm also having a tour of the Gamblin factory. I've always been very impressed with how helpful their website is and I love their products so when I found out I was going to be in Portland, I contacted them to ask for a tour. I've been so excited about it and your photos make me even more excited.
I've never heard of them so I'll check it out. Thanks for the info. I like your painting.
Wow! I like that underpainting. Can't wait to see more. Thomas Kitts plein air workshop starts Monday and hoping he's added a tour of the Gamblin factory to his workshop like he did last year!

Wow!! What a fabulous day you had! Love the tour photos too. The painting you did is one of my new favorites. That palette is exquisite! I wish I could tour the plant with Nancy next week. What fun we would have and then to meet up with you would be awesome!!

I really like the underpainting, just as is! And beer should be on the agenda for business meetings too. Not with waffles maybe, but somewhere along the line.
I use Gamblin paints exclusively so seeing the factory was of special interest to me! I love your underpainting and can't wait to see how you decide to go from here.

I like the almost abstract underpainting.
C'est toujours extrêmement excitant de tester de nouvelles peintures. On est souvent porté par une nouvelle tonicité qui séduit agréablement.
La visite de l'entreprise devait être très intéressante.
Il est important de connaître la manière que naissent aussi la base de nos couleurs.
J'emploie les couleurs ou pigments Blockx et parfois CHARVIN chez qui j'avais eu l'opportunité de visiter leur entreprise dans le sud de la France.
Votre toile est bien engagée...
Et avec la gaufre ce fut certainement une belle façon d'apporter une belle touche de note sucrée à cette fabuleuse journée.

Almost forgot! Just between you and me, calling this an underpainting verges on the criminal.
