A simple sketch with the "Elegant Writer"

Some time ago my sketching pal Carrie Holst introduced me to the "Elegant Writer" pen, showing me how you can add water to the ink to achieve a cool wash. I feel super lucky to know Carrie, getting to hang out with her and Carolyn Rondthaler on Tuesdays. They are both gifted artists, always experimenting and encouraging everyone (yes, even oil painters) to follow suit. The Elegant writer thing is a fun deal..you should try it too!

Hey, I want to hang out with Carrie, too :o) Kidding, but that is the wonderful thing about art, it makes fast friends...and artists are always willing to share. It's part of the deal. I love the idea of ink washes. Will definitely look into these. Thanks, Celeste.

I love this sketch Celeste and I deserve no credit at all...even though I know our sketch sessions are very special. You are a true artist and elegant writers are just tools.

How nice, Celeste! And you got the knack of it immediately because this ink wash portrait is very accomplished. All the best with your 3-man exhibition!

I also love the look of this piece and am marveling at the tonal differences too. Beautiful piece in its own right (i.e., not a simple sketch, to my mind)!

It is a wonderful experience to share painting times and the friendships made by artists"hanging out".
Carolyn i sright. tools are great things only in the hands of the artists using them.
Good luck on your show this coming weekend. Tell everyone I said Hi. [that should make them all wonder]and thanks for your alwaays so kind comments on my art blog.

I like the drawing. I had an Elegant Writer several years ago but I didn't know Carrie, so I only used it for writing. I'll have to get another; looks like fun.

Very nice! I have some of these lying around - Myrna Wacknov uses them, too. Will have to give them a go next time I do some sketching.
