Friday at Kat Sowa's

We met this morning at the Cathedral Park Kitchen for breakfast and then Kat Sowa hosted a modeling session in her studio (in Cathedral Park Place). Our model had a definite "Casablanca"look. I enjoyed the day! A big bonus was that George Broderick dropped by. My painting started off well...but then it went very sideways. Unbloggable! When I got home I sketched the model from a photo and from what I remember of the light...(Well, hey.."Play it again, Sam!")

Charcoal Sketch, Celeste Bergin, Model "H", oil on 20x16 canvas panel.

I checked out the slideshow. Your drawing is a good resemblance. Lucky you, painting in that studio.

Great sketch Celest! I made a similar one a few days ago and meant to post it the next time. I will post the reference photo too, so there can be no doubt where it comes from :-))

Loved your "play it again, Sam!" comment as to the painting redo. LOL I think this is fabulous! The medium just accentuates that Casablanca feel too. That is one gorgeous studio!

I really enjoyed seeing all these photos. What a great space to paint! It is interesting to see all the different paintings and interpretations from the same set up. I think your painting looks great--it must have gone "sideways" after this photo was taken.

I agree, the one you painted in the slide show was great.

Much energy at that session. I love your slide shows.

I had the experience of doing a plein air at the Jetty, Ocean Shores. It went brilliantly, and then I ruined it!

Here we go again - I'm so busy that I can't even leave a comment, and you paint so many that are so good! Love the expression in this one, great hand! And again you are a master of values. Great slide show - I would love to just watch what you do when you paint a portrait. And, catching up a bit - "K" is great - she is luminuous! and Monday! the woman with glasses, is just magnificent. The depth, the face emerges from the board. She was my librarian in grade school.
