Tuesday~!

For at least a decade I have kept journals on ruled pads (photo below). Every day I write out about 2 or three pages in somewhat of a stream-of-consciousness way...things like "Well, THAT didn't turn out as expected", "My feet hurt" "I'm way behind schedule" or"I learned a lot!".  Keeping journals has helped me in all manner of ways. I seldom go back to read anything, it's more about just getting things off my chest and processing ideas. My painting today was also painted in a in a stream-of-consciousness way. For the most part I just "made it up" and painted it from memory and as it came to me. Tonight I'll likely write in my journal: "2/21/12: Today was a great day! (it was!) and I blogged a painting from memory"

........How was your Tuesday?

Yeesh. I've always wanted to keep a journal. Unfortunately, I make the mistake going back and reading what I wrote the last time, embarrass myself, rip it all up and shelve the idea until the next time that particular bug strikes. I guess maybe that is why I write the way I tend to do on the blog. Rather journal-y. Love this painting from memory and what a place for a book! Right next to some beautiful flowers. Love the darker and complementary palette as well!

Tuesday wasn't bad. Gettin' there...

I keep spiral notebooks and they have been helpful. I can easily go back to see what was going down on what day or retrieve some info. if I need it:)

WOW! That's a lot of pages. Yesterday I wrote about getting a spot of white oil paint on one of my bar chairs which forced me to move those oils somewhere else where messy is okay. I read it to Honey, (I call my car, my car), and he asked if anybody, meaning me, read everybody's stuff. He obviously thought my post was boring, which it was, unless you were an artist who was having space problems and found comfort in the fact you were not alone. I said I do. What concerns one artist could concern others, or has in the past. If I was to paint a dream painting today, it would be of a larger, more organized studio. I like your dream painting. The colors are great and your subject was interesting since I don't do vases and pots very well.

Wow, you're brave--I don't think I'd want to commit my thoughts to paper too much. Might come back to haunt! Love this still life. Mysterious.

I have admired your flowers, but there is something about this one that I want to emulate. maybe the subtle verticals below the right hand vase, and the transparency of the paint. Very inspiring, and I think a special piece.

This memory painting is unbelievable!! I agree with Casey about the verticals - I love the effect. And the rich blues against the black - and the way the white just pops! You have beautiful memories. It's no wonder you need a lot of journals.
