Monday!

Cows are popular subjects with painters...and I've done a few before...but this is the first one I've painted onto a black support. I got this idea from Cathleen Rehfeld. (She has a great black gesso tutorial on Daily Paintworks).

Painting: Celeste Bergin, Cow, oil on 5x7 gessoed hardboard

Good morning Celeste!
I love the cow! I love the dark background! The texture is great! Very successful work! I also love the design. Cows are such noble creatures! Well done!
I also love the still life in progress from the other day!

Oh I do love the light hitting this beauty on the cow's left side. The black works beautifully too.

I like the black background. I've enjoyed Cathleen Rehfeld's paintings on black as well. This is making me want to break out the oil paint and give it a try. Thanks.

What really drew me to it was the colors you used for the cow, and the black just set them off.

Holy Cow! What a great grazing cow. I love the strikes when I enlarge.

I must look at that. I purchased a tub of black gesso and have never ever used more than the first time. I do love the way you have captured this cow.

The colors take on an almost magical look against the black gesso, Celeste!!
I've used black gesso off and on for years and I LOVE it!

Nice job on the black. I'm finding that I have to think in reverse when working on black. I'll have to check out Kathleen's Tutorial to help me overcome the dark.
