The topic of our art discussion meeting today was "the importance of gray". This is one of the paintings I took in. (It is my 1980's Coach messenger bag...still beautiful after all these years).

To see what everyone else brought to the meeting....go HERE.

Painting: Celeste Bergin, Coach handbag, oil on 8x8 canvas panel

I have yet to break down and buy a Coach bag. You painted it prettily Celeste.

I hope to own a Coach purse some day...but the ones I can afford on eBay are just not in a style I want! LOL I like the painting!

Your art group sounds so vital and vibrant with discussion on important topics.

Leathery surfaces are difficult to paint but you pulled it off beautifully.

My black one still looks good, too, despite its 30 years of use. Your strap has rhythm--nice. I recently found a brown one for $7 at a thrift shop--unused, made in the USA. I'm set.

Several days ago, I read that the woman who came up with the Coach bag passed away. A New Yorker; she convinced her wallet-maker husband to make nice leather handbags, and the company grew. said...

I get the feeling you enjoyed painting this. You captured the type of leather very well because I knew which one it was right away.
