Happy Father's Day!

This afternoon I painted this copy of "Study of a man in a tall hat" by John Singer Sargent. (You would think that the beard would gotten a mention in the title.. but no!) I chose to do this particular fellow today... because he looks fatherly! (I googled this style beard. It is called "The Victor").

I hope you had a great Father's Day. :)

Great brushwork and copy but I admit to being pleased this style of beard is not popular today.
Nice tribute to your father - love his name.

Love that starch white beard. Why don't men wear those clothes anymore? I love the photo of your dad.

Would love to sport a beard like that. Gives your face so much character! Your work is fabulous. You should try and paint your Dad's portrait.

I like the idea of painting a Sargent. You did an amazing job of it and that is one unusual beard. Nice picture of your father!

Love your painting! The beard? Not so much! :-)

Your dad was a handsome sailor with a drink and cigar. That would make a good painting, too.

Ooh how fun to use a Sargent portrait as a reference!

I'm glad you explained that white growth at the sides of the face, however. Scary. I for one am glad this is no longer in style.

Two handsome gents! Your Sargent study is awesome - love those flesh tones. The pic of your dad is so great - the pose, uniform, cigar and beer - he's the poster boy for "cool guy". Have you ever painted this? If not I think you should! ♥
