Saturday!

Looking around for something to do today I came across this start (probably from a year ago). I think it may be Sargent-inspired...but I don't remember what I originally used for a reference. I added more paint to it and just made stuff up. It's painted on Arches paper. I like the light and dark!

Oil Study, Celeste Bergin, Portrait, oil on 9x12 Arches paper

For some reason I am reminded of old black and white films, maybe set in London...leaning toward the scary side too. I think this is awesome! I too like the light and dark.

She looks very haughty and it's a striking portrait, Celeste.

She does look dramatic and uppity!

There is also an abstract quality that is so interesting. Dramatic. I'll bet you did have fun.

This woman has a dark and compelling presence. I find myself wondering what the story is behind that face.

Lovely light Celeste - and inspiring too. I have some unfinished still lifes sitting around, the references are long gone now, but I've been curious what would happen if I just winged it, painted from memory or instinct or just for finishing's sake. Thanks for the inspiration to play. :)

I love how you gave her such personality. The facial planes have gorgeous highlights. It does look like it could be a Sargent painting given all the darks. Maybe someday knows.

I really like the dramatic effect of the dark colors and her darkened eyes...lots of questions come. It's very beautiful.
