Just a sketch

I've been missing from blogging-land for awhile because I have been working on an un-art-related project.  I seriously under-estimated how much time it will take!  Well, meanwhile,  I was able to fit in this sketch from an old-timey photo. I love vine charcoal....it is so........smudgy.

Wed-nes-day

I painted today...but I didn't like the outcome. Here I am, consoling myself with a marathon chat on my cell phone in the famous green chair. Everyone loves the green chair.

Tuesday!

I have this old coat from the late 60's that I just can't part with. I painted it and wrote about it once before (4 years ago). I hung it up in the front room tonight to paint this study in black and white gouache. I will do a real painting of it one day. It is by far my favorite item of apparel.

Saturday!

Yesterday I managed to get to I've been Framed Art Supply to pick up more gouache and today I painted in the 'art corner' I've got set up in the front room. The snow storm/ice storm is motivating lots of us to stay close-to-home. I painted this mostly from imagination.

I've Been Framed is very close to one of my favorite lunch spots, Diane's. I took this photo out the window. As I sat there examining the sign-painter's work ...I recognized that gouache and poster paint are very similar. Opaque!

Here's part of my painting/drawing station. It is a perfect place to spend some time on a winter day together with my pencils, my paints, zee cats... and a cup of hot chocolate. I'm not tempted to paint on the windows......or am I?

Snow Angel

We don't get snow in Portland, Oregon like the rest of the country does. When I moved here a long time ago I was told there is something called the 'Japanese current' that protects Oregon from harsh winters. (I really don't know what that is and if it is true or not). Today, if it is for real, the Japanese current must have been looking the other way, because we are sort of joining the rest of the country now with snow and cold.

All my usual events have been cancelled because of weather, so Dave and I watched a marathon of State of Play (a BBC episodic mystery) and we did venture outside for a little horseplay too. Brrrr!

I painted the above painting with gouache. I love how opaque it is. My gouache supply is getting low and I plan to buy more (if the weather ever lets me get back in the car again).

Monday!

I got to paint in a life session today. I really loved how the model was set up. She was meant to be taking a break "backstage". This is what I got done in the time allotted.

Go Seahawks!

I'm still enjoying my gouache paints. Today I am using just black and white and a little charcoal. (........You know, I'll be rooting for the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday!)
