Tuesday!

This is a made up diner sign...out of my head. I used only orange, blue and white acrylic and painted it on paper. Don't you love painting screwball things like this sometimes... just for the fun of it?

My plein air friend Cathleen Rehfeld told me about Liz Steele who provides some really great drawing tutorials...you can find one HERE.

And .....here's a shot from the parking lot where we had lunch today....just so you know what kind of weather we're having.

Monday Monday!

Evidence that I am a complete sap when it comes to cats and dogs...here I am photographing a neighbors orange cat (without his express permission, I might add). Hey kitty...Pictures, or it didn't happen.

This is yet a different orange cat...this is my neighbor's cat who is taking up residence on my porch. The blanket is there just for him.

Now that you are up-to-date on zee orange cats ...here is how my complements and notan experiment came out. It is done with just yellow and purple and white. Her face has kind of a kabuki look. I'm just going to leave it here (since it is just an experiment). Next I'll do an orange/blue experiment.  For those who asked what is notan...here is a great video from Mitch Albala:

Weekend!

This is just a start. I'm experimenting with complements and notan. I left it here....and will work on it again tomorrow. Isn't 50's haute couture just the best? The big shapes seem to paint themselves.

P.S. I couldn't go to the most recent art discussion...I seldom miss those, but as is my custom...here is the LINK, in case you are interested.

Sunday/Monday!

This month Quin Sweetman and I have paintings in the lobby of the NE Community Center. Though I earmarked this painting (above) as one for the exhibit, I elected to leave it out.  Sometimes, just as with painting itself, what you leave out is as important as what you put in.

It's not always easy to get paintings to sit squarely on these hanging systems...but eventually I did it. This is just the right amount of paintings for the space. Less is more!

Quin and I ham it up for the camera (thanks for the pictures, Dave)

Last week we sketched after the art discussion meeting. It's the "meeting-after-the-meeting" and great fun. Here is what everyone brought to the meeting: Alla Prima Portland (and if you scroll to the end of the post you'll see the sketches too).

I live very close to the PCC Sylvania campus. Yesterday we went for a walk and asked if it was all right to have a look from the new library. This is the view from the 2nd floor.

Checking out the campus reminded me of my own days at School. The librarian told me there will be a cafe soon and it will be open to all. Hooray! A new place to go with my sketchbook. I'm continually grateful that I live here. :)

What have you got planned for your new week?

Sunday/Monday!

Thanks so much to everyone for the condolences for my friend Sondra. I so appreciate it.  I was thinking of her when I painted this. To see all the paintings that showed up for the Thursday art discussion....go HERE.
