This is a detail of a block-in I started today. Lots more to go.

This afternoon Dave and I went over to the Cascade Athletic Club. We do a lot of "real" walking, but we decided to go treadmilling instead today. Next time I'll take my earphones so I can watch Dr. Phil. (kidding! kidding!)

Friday I was in a one-day workshop with Za Vue in Hood River. It was just great (as I knew it would be). The class met at Mayer State Park. Instead of painting the river view I decided to turn the opposite direction to paint this bush. It looked really pretty in the sunshine.

Before the color study Za had us paint three-value black and white studies.

This was my first black and white study. Nailing the values down ahead of color is so important!

I recently bought a used Soltek easel and this was the first time I used it. I liked it, except it was set up about a foot shorter than it should have been. It took me awhile but I think I have it adjusted properly now. Can't wait to take it out again soon.

Now...what about you--are you painting?

This is a painting I recently painted in two sessions.  I enjoyed using a palette knife and also giving it a 2nd pass. I may add a few more touches.

My "BFF" Sondra moved back from California to Oregon. So to celebrate her homecoming on Tuesday I drove to Salem to see her and have lunch. Here is our selfie!

We had lunch at a pretty McMenamins

We also went to the Salem Library (Sondra needed books). While there I discovered their lending program of original art. Well, that's different!

I've never seen anything like this before. It seems like a good idea....I think (?)

Today Dave and I went to the Portland Art Museum to see The Art of the Louvre's Tuileries Garden

In the front lobby art was being installed for the Joel Shapiro exhibit. I thought the skyjack lift was as cool as the art.

Inside the PAM show there are huge sculptures that were actually in the Paris Garden. It was so fun to examine the super-beautiful sculptures..especially their hands and feet. We were allowed to take photos with our mobile phones "only".

My phone is still on here, just in case I needed to take more photos!

In the lower floor was a good photography exhibit: Two-Way Street: The Photographs of Garry Winogrand and Jonathan Brand. That's my report from two great days. What have you been up to?

Yesterday I posted a portrait that I had dashed out...but I wound up deleting it. Some efforts are just better left on the cutting room floor! This painting is from awhile back. I like the strong color next to the muted color.

Did you have a great weekend..are you read to start a new week?

I went to the Art Discussion meeting today. The topic was your strength and your weakness pertaining to painting. It was so interesting to hear what all the painters had to say. To see what we brought...go HERE.

I just came across this painting that I painted in the past. And though it doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense, it's accurate.  (It is a planter and lightpost in the middle of the street downtown).

Also, Thursday evening there was an Artist's Reception for our Alla Prima Portland First Annual Invitational Group Show. It was so much fun! Photos from the event....HERE. Happy Weekend, Art friends! What are your plans?
